To celebrate my recovery from E.Coli (thanks, Mexican airport tortilla soup!), I’ve decided to drink most of a bottle of rum while my dog silently judges me. I live a strange life. I’m retired in my early 30s, I own 11 cars and 6 boats, I have all the hobbies, I’m blacklisted in the Southern California legal community, I’m very drunk, I’m very bored, I’m definitely not sleeping tonight, and I split time between San Diego, Alaska, and Baja. Have at it, Oppo.

I bought a very good bottle of Vodka, but have only enjoyed a single cocktail with dinner. Any thoughts on Woody Creek 100% Potato Vodka?

Dude, vodka tears me up. I mostly stick to rum and tequila. But shit, if it tastes good, drink too much of it and make bad decisions.

Why are you blacklisted in the southern california legal community (and don’t say it’s because they’re all assholes, even though that is probably true)?

How many classes of boat should a boat enthusiast own?

It’s like cars. As many as you can afford.
In my defense, they’re split between 4 properties, and the biggest of them is 23 feet.

Because a reputable firm spent huge money getting me all trained up and groomed for command, only for me to burn out at 30 and straight up quit, passing off dozens of active cases. Take it from me, that goes off super not great.

Yeah, stocks are for chumps. It’s basically socially acceptable gambling. I’m kind of not 100% voluntarily retired. I needed a couple years off because I’d been working consistent 80+ hour weeks since my second year of law school, and I was super burned out. But the circumstances of me leaving my job have made it tough to get back into the industry. Luckily, I invested in some real estate while I was making good money and the market was low. So I’ve had to cut back a lot, but the rental income from my real estate has made it doable. Real estate is the way to go. Even if the rental income is just covering the cost of the mortgage, you’re still banking equity. You don’t have to get lucky with real estate.

Tough call. I’d go e30, just because you can probably get a mechanically soundish e30 for basketcase 944 money. Also, the 944 is always going to be on the relatively heavy side, but you can strip down an e30 to a glorified go-kart level. Sorry. I know this wasn’t what you wanted to hear.
For cheese, we need to talk about applications. If we’re talking straight-up, I have to go medium cheddar. On a cracker, I’m a triple-cream brie guy. And on a grilled cheese sangwich, I’m going smoked gouda.
I don’t know about you, but doctors have told me my insomnia is a side-effect of adult ADD. Basically, my mind is all over the place, so I can’t shut down and go to sleep. Reading a book in bed works about 90% of the time. But there’s still that 10%, which is a problem.

Yeah dude. This is a car website, where people talk about their cars. I have a bunch of cars, and I do lots of car-related shit. It’s a big part of my life, and I like to talk about it. I also like talking to other people about their cars. That’s what this site is for. There are people here with Ferraris, and people here with Huffys. We all hang out and talk about cars. Boats, planes, and bikes also happen to be in the general scope of shit people on Oppo find interesting, so yeah, I threw in that I have some boats.
I’m not rubbing anything in anyone’s face. I’m talking about my experiences. My experiences happen to be fairly unique. I’ve led a pretty weird life. Some people may want to ask me about it, which is great, because I’m not going to sleep tonight, and I have nothing better to do than talk to people. Some people don’t give a shit what I have to say, which is also great, because I’m not special or exceptional, and I don’t expect anyone to pay attention to me. So if you find yourself in the latter category, just scroll past, don’t come in and be a dick for no reason.

Wow.
Some people resent success. They resent wealth. That guy who won the lotto, be happy for him even if he didn’t break his back to make his money. A radio personality everyone hates but I actually like said something years ago on his show that has stuck with me.
“Resent money, you’ll never make it. Resent success and you’ll never achieve it. Celebrate success even if it isn’t your own it will push you ahead further in life” And it’s the truth. I think it’s bad ass that you own a bunch of that stuff and I’m glad we’ve got some people here that are willing to share that with us. Not everyone on Oppo needs to be driving a rusted out hoopty wishing to one day own something nice to be part of the community.

So i’ll go out on a limb and assume powerboats? 23' is a decent sized powerboat but on the smaller size for a sailboat with a cabin. I don’t think I would be comfortable on a sail boat that size on Lake Superior.

Yeah, they’re all power boats. 23' Is the biggest. That’s my serious offshore rig that I’ll take out on overnights and stuff. My other offshore boats are both 21', and they’re capable, but I wouldn’t take them out of radio range of shore. The other 3 consist of a bay boat type deal, an aluminum 14-footer, and a 12-foot aluminum car-topper.

It’s an 18-foot 1959 Glasspar Seafair with twin 50-horse 1983 Johnson Seahorse 2-strokes. It was the first search and rescue boat on Lake Tahoe. My grandpa bought it in the early 70s, then my dad bought it from him a few years later. It used to have a cabin, which my dad removed with a sawzall for more fishing room. We used to trailer it down to Baja a couple times a year until he sold it to a buddy of his in the mid 90s. We went down and visited the guy in Cabo in like ‘02, and the boat was sitting and rotting in the sun. So I bought it from him for $200. Drove down a couple months later with a buddy who could weld and a new axle. Got the trailer road-worthy and brought it up to San Diego. Rebuilt both motors, tore out and rebuilt all the bulkheads, replaced the deck, rewired the whole damn thing with a 2 battery setup, plumbed in a bait tank, rebuilt the seats, and probably some other stuff I can’t remember. Love that boat. It’ll run around all day for under 20 bucks in gas.

Wow, helluva history. It looks good in the picture, can’t even tell it had sawzall surgery in its past.
how are those motors, I’m guessing they’re too old for injection so they must be premix on a carb. I guess its warm there so they are to terribly ornery.

I’m sure we all wish... I was asking hypothetically. I’m not sure which I would go with. Having sat in a former employer’s XKE I can tell you it is a biatch to get in and out of (especially being 6'3") and hearing the laundry list of things that had been replaced or to be watched carefully....
I can’t imagine the Daytona having any less issues but have yet to have the opportunity to even see let alone to sit in the drivers seat.
It would be a wonderful problem to have to choose between the two.
